10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not exciting for a lot of us. But it has to be done. As the winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your home?
The exterior of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your home in Garden Grove, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you a lot of money over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris collect in the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest in the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t cause you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows will be a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem silly because you will be driving on it, but, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it’s easy to forget about it in the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough shape the first time you walk onto it in the spring.
Detergent and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or algae, you might need to think about a more serious option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical roof problems in Garden Grove. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to clean your home’s roof as well, but you will have to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then leave it sit. This solution will kill all organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is likely what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will probably encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it for a really fresh look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will soon be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is a great opportunity to organize whatever you will need for outdoor chores.
Yard tools as well as pool care equipment must all have an assigned place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the exterior of your home so much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a huge impact on the look of your home.
Eliminate weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you might be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family ill.
Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably complete all of these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Garden Grove Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
